About Us - The Medical Faculty
The Medical Faculty of the University of Leipzig, with its tradition spanning over 600 years, is one of the largest research institutions in the Leipzig region. With over 1,300 employees, it is the largest of the 14 faculties of the University of Leipzig and serves as a training center for approximately 3,500 students of human and dental medicine, pharmacy, and midwifery.
The Leipzig Cohorts and Trial(ist)s LeiCoT program will address the high need for clinical trialists developing and conducting cohort studies and randomized controlled trials. LeiCoT will build on and extend the excellent infrastructure in the areas of Metabolism, Heart/Brain and Cancer at Leipzig University.LeiCoT will provide novel career pathways, excellent training,cutting-edge clinical research tools and long-term perspectives for clinical trialists to ultimately improve patient care. The program duration is six years, with an interim evaluation after 3 years.
Your Profile
- Recognized specialist (Facharzt) with a strong research background in basic, translational, or clinical research
- Strong research history in one of the three profile areas: Metabolism, Brain/Heart, or Cancer
- Demonstrated ability to establish, lead, and actively shape a research group
- Independent third-party funding acquisition is desirable
- German medical license (Approbation) or authorisation to practice medicine in Germany
- Strong publication record, typically ≥ 6 peer-reviewed original publications or at least one excellent publication (e.g. top 10% journal or impact factor > 15) as first or last author

Selection Process
- Evaluation: 11 May 2026(on-site or online)
- 10-minute scientific presentation
- 10-minute discussion
- Upon successful evaluation: preparation of a budgetplan for submission to the BMFTR
- Program start: from1 July 2026, subject to formal approval
